The Skodje bridges
Fjords, NorwayAbout this experience
Today there are two bridges built in cobblestone in Skodje, across the currents Skodjestrømmen and Eggestrømmen. The bridges were constructed in 1916-1919, and when the bridge across Skodjestrømmen was opened it was the largest stone bridge in Northern Europe at the time. The bridge across Skodjestrømmen is unfortunately not suited for the amount of traffic that passes there today, and a new bridge opened the summer 2004. The old bridge will be preserved as a cultural monument.
