Gröndal's House

At the corner of Fischersund and Mjóstræti, in the oldest part of Reykjavik, stands a small red house with a big history. This house is called Gröndal‘s House after its former owner, the writer, artist and scholar Benedikt Gröndal, who lived in the house from 1888 until his death in 1907.

The house is owned by the City of Reykjavik and is run as a literary house and residency by the Reykjavik UNESCO City of Literature. Regular literary events and salon readings are hosted in this writer‘s home, where Gröndal created some of his best-known works, both writings and drawings.
