About this experience

The Ultimate Skellig Coast Tour 2 hours

This our is suitable for 10-year-olds and above.

This tour is available in English, Frenche, Spanish, Italian or German.

This tour is the ultimate experience when seeking the up close and interactive option for exploring the Skellig Islands and Skellig Coast story stretching back to the 6th century. Through facts and stories, your guide will weave a voyage of discovery through the Skellig Coast, capturing the folklore and history this area has to offer.

Let your crew take you on an adventure of a lifetime onboard the ‘Skellig Bounty’ for a fully guided and immersive experience into the North Atlantic Ocean. As you leave Valentia Island, you will venture on the same course that the Transatlantic Telegraph Cable took when it changed Europe’s method of communication across the Atlantic Ocean during the 18th century. Learn about Bray Tower and its importance over time when protecting Valentia’s little island from intruders roaming along the Skellig Coast.

As you continue on your course out to sea, passing the spectacular Kerry Cliffs and Puffin Island, your journey will take you towards and around the breathtaking Sceilig Mhichíl (Skellig Michael) and Sceilig Bheag (Small Skellig). As you cruise around these stunning rock formations and abundant wildlife, you will hear that Sceilig Mhichíl (Skellig Michael) was once a place of pilgrimage, prayer, and penance for much of its history, dating back to the 6th century as part of early Christianity.

As you leave this UNESCO Heritage site, keep a sharp lookout as often on your journey; you may encounter dolphins and whales popping up to say hello. On your return to land, your captain will cruise past the small monastic island of Illlaunloughan and onwards towards the picturesque fishing village of Portmagee.

An onboard toilet is available.

The tour departs from the Skellig Experience Visitor Centre (opposite Portmagee).
