The 92 acre site was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1988. It includes a 17 acre (6.9 ha) millpond, marshes, grassland, reedbeds, hedges and woodlands. The site provides a haven for a variety of wildlife, being known to having recorded over 400 species of plants, from Common Birdsfoot Trefoil to Orchids and ancient Oaks, and over 100 species of bird, including a thriving Heronry, wildfowl, woodpeckers and the rare Cetti's Warbler. The beautiful Kingfisher makes the most of the waters and are regularly seen from the birdhides. The Reserve is also rich in dragonfly - over 21 species have been recorded - which take advantage of the different wetland habitats. We have a captive breeding programme for Harvest Mice and a vivariium in the visitor centre. Facilities: Ample free parking. Disabled access toilets with baby changing facilities. Picnic facilities close to the Visitor Centre. There are 5 bird hides, one of which includes a feeding station.and the Millpond Nature Trail. The Herons Rest Cafe is run by volunteers from the Friends of Warnham and offers hot & cold drinks and a selection of packaged snacks.The visitor centre / cafe is open 10am to 3pm winter and 10 to 4pm summer Admission: Access to the Visitor Centre is free. However a low-cost Day permits are £2.00 per adult and free for accompanied children under 16 years allows access to the whole reserve, including 5 bird hides, a feeding station, the Millpond Nature Trail and two extensive boardwalks. Annual permits are available at £12.00 per household (two adults and up to four children at the same address) Dogs, cycling, picnics are not permitted on the Reserve. There is a small picnic area by the entrance. The Friends of Warnham LNR host many events for which booking is often required – see website. Membership of Friends is £10 per household and this is in addition to the day or annual permit being held. The Reserve is open from 10am daily until 5pm (or dusk) in winter and 6pm between April and October. Find more parks and gardens in south east England.
