Stolpersteine: memorial cobblestones
Eastern Norway, NorwayStolpersteine are memorial cobblestones located all over Norway, commemorating victims of the Holocaust. Each Stolperstein is a small, brass plaque, embedded in the pavement, with the name of a victim inscribed on it. The stones are placed at the last known address of the victim, as a reminder of the tragedy of the Holocaust. The Stolpersteine project was initiated in Germany in 1992, and since then, more than 70,000 stones have been placed in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Norway. In Norway, the stones are placed in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, and Stavanger. Visiting the Stolpersteine is a powerful experience, as it reminds us of the horrors of the Holocaust, and serves as a reminder of the importance of tolerance and respect for human rights.
