About this experience

Janheim is a local centre focusing on the cultural landscape and history of Jøa. The viking long house Janheim is a 26 meter long reconstruction based on the original iron age house at Tranaas during the viking age. This impressive construction transports you back in time as soon as you step inside.

The ruins of the old farmhouses are cultural heritage sites and were built between 500 b. C and 700 a. D. You can see traces of human activity in the area several thousand years back.

At Janheim you can get guided tours in the cultural landscape, ending with a cup of coffee in the long house. You can also wander around the area on your own.

We arrange Viking style suppers on request, and hold events all throughout the year.
