About Fondo Ambiente Italiano

Italy is home to more UNESCO heritage sites than any other country on earth, and boasts among the most varied landscapes anywhere. Since its foundation in 1975, FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano (the National Trust for Italy) - takes care of special places in Italy so that present and future generations from all over the world may enjoy a priceless legacy.

With your help we can protect the most beautiful, untouched and hidden parts of Italy.

Our mission is:
– Restore properties located across Italy and open them to the public
– Manage them sustainably in both economic and environmental terms;
– Enhance these special sites so that they can tell their story and become “happy places” in which to spend high-quality leisure time.

In parallel, FAI raises awareness by bringing citizens, institutions and businesses into contact with artistic and environmental heritage, as well as educating an increasing number of young people on the importance of loving and respecting the landscape and the beauty that surround us.

FAI actively promotes educational projects and organizes national campaigns inviting the public to discover and appreciate Italy’s immense cultural heritage, at times unknown, inaccessible or forgotten.
