Protecting Portugal's Iberian Peninsula
About LPN (liga para a protecção da natureza)
LPN, the oldest Portuguese environmental association, contributes to nature conservation through several activities:
– environmental education and training
– direct intervention in environmental issues
– development/implementation of conservation and research projects
We believe in promoting an active, responsible ‘Environmental Citizenship’.
The more of us there are, the more energy we will put out there, more decisions will be taken and a better environment will be left for the future.
So our projects help raise population awareness to the conservation needs of our country. Educating children, teenagers and young adults, and also involving the communities of primary and secondary school teachers, about the importance of protecting nature and the environment.
With these activities, LPN helps them to understand the interdependent links that exist between the good condition of habitats and, consequently, the species that live there, and our own human quality of life.
LPN’s other activities directly prevent the destruction of natural habitats, its components and the cultural heritage of the Iberian Peninsula.
We participate actively on land planning and management, and work jointly with other national and international partner organizations in doing so.
An example being the acquisition and management of a variety of areas of critical biodiversity importance in a sustainable perspective. All fitting to our mission to enhance the sustainability of human development.
